Capitalization: In titles of works, all words are capitalized except articles (a, an, the), prepositions (to, from, between, and so on), coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet), and the to in infinitives — unless they are the first or last word of the title or subtitle. Titles of periodical articles and other short works, such as brief documents from Web sites, are put in quotation marks; titles of books and other long works, such as entire Web sites, are italicized. Italics or Quotes: Use italics for titles of larger works (books, journals, entire web site) and quotation marks for titles of shorter works (chapters in books, web pages, articles) Electronic and online sources: URLs are no longer required for Web entries. However, if your instructor or publisher insists on them, include them in angle brackets after the entry and end with a period. If an online source includes fixed page numbers or section numbering, such as numbering of paragraphs, cite the relevant numbers. Medium: All entries in a works cited list, whether they are print or electronic, must now include the medium in which they have been published (Print, Web, DVD, Television, etc.). Order: Arrange entries in alphabetical order by authors’ last names (surnames), or by title for sources without authors. Publisher: Shorten the publisher’s name; for example, omit articles, business abbreviations (Co., Inc.), and descriptive words (Press, Publisher). When multiple publishers are listed, include all of them, placing a semicolon between each. Authors: Use the conjunction “and,” not an ampersand [&], when listing multiple authors of a single work. If there are two or more items from the same author, the subsequent entries are listed as —. (three hyphens and a period) instead of repeating the name and arranged alphabetically by the book’s title .
