Higher education is a major focus in a lot of public schools across America, it’s almost expected for students to have some kind of higher education plan in mind before they graduate. Our text talks about the issues between students who go to and complete college in comparison to those who do not and the main thing discussed is job opportunities and economic stability.

I understand that typically having some kind of degree assists in a job hunt, I’ve personally witnessed a lot of my friends who’ve completed college having difficulty landing jobs. If you take a look at the job listings on sites like Indeed, entry-level positions that pay barely livable wages now require a Bachelor’s or higher. Many young Americans were told growing up that doing good in school and going to college would give them all the opportunities they wanted and that’s just not the case anymore.

While I do love the fact that I’m learning and working towards a real career, watching thousands of college grads struggle to pay their bills because they’re stuck at low-paying jobs makes me worry about what post-college life will be for me.

All that to say, I don’t think the world we live in right now makes the typical college path seem worth it to younger generations. Addressing the overwhelming student debt crisis and the unstable job market are the only solutions to changing that mindset, in my opinion.
