COMPUTER SCIENCE METHODOLOGIES AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH DATA

INTRODUCTION

Throughout this course you have delved into many advancements in nursing practice. From technologies for improved patient care to new ways to gather data, the sky seems to be the limit in what science can do and even where these advancements might continue to lead us. However, these advancements may be met with barriers for implementation based on social determinants to health data and care.

In this module, you will explore both innovative tools and the impact of social determinants in health data. Think about what areas of your practice might benefit from the use of technological advancements, and what areas might prove to be barriers for implementation. What experience or narrative might need further exploration to strengthen health literacy? How might social determinants affect the patients or care in your area of practice?

WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS MODULE?

Module 4: Computer Science Methodologies and Social Determinants of Health Data is a 2-week module—Weeks 7 and 8 of the course—in which you will consider the use of advancements in informatics tools on healthcare and clinical practice. As you engage with the resources for this module, you will consider when these types of tools might be useful, as well as consider barriers to implementation. In your Blog Assignments, you will explore these topics and consider your experiences.

COMPUTER SCIENCE METHODOLOGIES

INTRODUCTION

“Technology will change how nurses spend time delivering patient care, but the need for nurses will remain. Nursing experience, knowledge, and skills will transition to learning new ways of thinking about and processing information—the nurse will become the information integrator, health coach, and deliverer of human caring, supported by AI technologies, not replaced by them” (Robert, 2019).

How might advancements in technology impact your practice? Why are these advancements important, as a future DNP-prepared nurse, why is it important to consider the impact of current and future advancements?

This week, you will computer science methodologies, specifically exploring technology advancements as they relate to healthcare and nursing practice. You will analyze the benefits and challenges of the advancements, as well as the impact of use.
