Assignment based on field trip:  Written 3-5 pp. typed, single or double spaced  research paper on your choice of 1, 2 or 3 artworks on view at the Whitney (from the tour with the professor or of your own choosing), applying the TABULA method plus explaining how the artworks is/are commenting on an issue or several issues facing society.Update on May 20: the syllabus originally said to pick ONE artwork. I am expanding the assignment to allow you to choose one, two or three artworks. You can tie together all 2-3 artworks with a single issue, or you can explore a different social theme/issue in 2 or 3 different arworks.  This expanded assignment allows you to compare and contrast artworks and to expand the range of themes and approaches you write about for your final project.

Required viewing: “Inside the Whitney Biennial Session 2” video on Embodiment (58 minutes) explains 15 artworks on view throught the lens of embodiment and intersectionality. Very helpful! You can quote or paraphrase what you learned from this video for one of your research sources for your written paper. (Provide URL in footnote and Works Cited page)
