What is a good role playing activity for the production stage of the ppp lesson teaching the past continuous interrupted?

The Detective Interview is an effective role-playing activity for teaching the past continuous interrupted tense during the production part of a PPP session.The objective of the detective interview is to practice using the past continuous interrupted tense in a conversational environment.Materials needed:A set of crime scenarios (e.g., a missing item, a weird event)Character cards (e.g., detective, suspects, and witnesses)Setup:Divide the class. Divide the students into small groups and assign everyone a different scenario.Assign roles: In each group, assign the roles of investigator, suspect, and witness.Activity Steps:Introduction: Describe the crime situation to the kids. Like the following: “A precious painting has gone missing from the art gallery at 8 PM last night.”Role-play:The detective asks each suspect and witness what they were doing at the time of the crime. Suspects and witnesses must react in the past continuous, interrupted tense.Example dialogue:Detective: “What did you do at 8 p.m. last night?”Suspect or Witness: “I was watching TV when I heard a loud noise.”Discussion: After each group has done, gather the class to discuss the findings. The detectives from each group can present their findings.Language Focus:Highlight the structure of the past continuous interrupted: “I was [verb]ing when [simple past event].”Provide feedback on the use of the tense and encourage students to remedy any mistakes.This game engages students in a fun and dynamic manner, allowing them to practice the target grammar in a realistic setting.
