For this Assignment, you will create your own Personal Brand Mini TED Talk. To learn how to create a great presentation you can read the tips about how to Talk Like Ted and create amazing presentations in the book “Talk Like Ted: The 9 Public-Speaking Secrets of the World’s Top Minds”.

What is your personal brand? It is your visibility, how you want people to see you, and the values you outwardly represent.

Why should you develop a personal brand? A personal brand allows you to share who you are and what you stand for professionally. Having a personal brand gives you a competitive advantage when shared with coworkers, leadership, and customers, it allows others to feel like they know you and can trust you.

Instructions

For this assignment, you will develop an outline and script for your video in a Word document. You will use the content in your outline and script to create your personal brand short video (2—3 minutes in length) using Media Gallery in Canvas, the following instructions will assist you.

Remember it is important to grab your audience’s attention. Think about what you are passionate about, and what stands out about you. Create empathy and use supporting statistics and stories. Pay attention to your pace, body language, and tone. Be sure to Wow and use “Moments that Matter.” Relax and be yourself, you won’t go wrong. Don’t be nervous, make this fun, it is meant to be practice and a learning experience for those of you who haven’t done a lot of videos yet. We’re here to support you.

Getting Started

  1. Develop an outline for your video that includes the following required components.
  2. Create a catchy headline to get your audience’s attention.
  3. Develop three main points and three supporting points for each main point.
    1. Example: Three ways to keep up with trends
      1. Main Point 1: Social Media.
        1. Supporting Point 1: communicate anytime, anywhere.
        2. Supporting Point 2: source of knowledge and learning.
        3. Supporting Point 3: connect with those that have common interests.
  4. Create a conclusion or call to action.
    1. Describe the action you want your audience to take after watching your presentation.
  5. Develop a script based on your outline.
    1. Practice using the script until you feel ready to record your video.
  6. Create your personal brand video keeping the following key points in mind.
    1. Identify your target audience.
    2. Develop a plan.
    3. Tell stories people want to hear.
    4. Match your content to your brand voice.
    5. Feature your brand colors and logo.
