Legal Research and Writing – Week 7 Assignment

Email Memo Assignment

You have received the following research assignment by email from Eliza Watkins, one of the senior attorneys in your firm:

Hi,

One of our clients, Rebecca Winslow, believes she has evidence of federal securities fraud (specifically, insider trading) by her employer, Capstone Investment Group. Rebecca is interested in knowing how to file a whistleblower tip or complaint with the SEC about the fraud, and if she does so, whether her privacy will be protected, any possible rewards available to whistleblowers, and whether Capstone can retaliate against her.

Please draft a short memo we can send to Rebecca by email. I believe you should be able to obtain all the information you need on the SEC’s website.

Eliza

Your memo should be one to two pages in length.  All of the information needed to prepare the email memo can be found at the website of the SEC’s Office of the Whistleblower. The specific information needed can be found in the FAQs section of the website at www.sec.gov/whistleblower/frequently-asked-questions.

Include the following aspects in your memo:

·         Respond to each of the four of the questions asked by the client.

·         Use the IRAC method in your analysis.

·         Use the format discussed in Chapter 17 of the textbook to help you prepare your memorandum
