Unit IV Journal

Please read the following scenario, and respond as though you are the deputy chief of administration. Use the assigned reading, the Unit IV Lesson, and supplemental research to inform your response to the question.

You are the deputy chief of administration serving the Columbia County Emergency Medical Services Department (CCEMS). CCEMS employs a staff of 120 personnel assigned to 12 stations throughout the county. CCEMS is a county department funded by taxpayer dollars collected through the county assessed general levy and dispersed through the general operations budget.

A lieutenant working for CCEMS approaches you to talk about an external job offer she recently received. She shares with you that a large private for-profit ambulance service has offered her a district chief position. The position is classified as exempt and includes a salaried compensation package exceeding $100,000 annually. She will be required to work a 24-on/48-off schedule with an average work week of 56 hours. The lieutenant asks if you could explain the difference between exempt and nonexempt and if she will qualify for overtime as a salaried, exempt employee.

How would you answer the lieutenant’s question? Explain.

Your journal entry must be at least 200 words in length. No references or citations are necessary.

Unit IV Journal

When confronted with the utilization of secondary data and the inherent lack of direct engagement with study participants, how might we navigate the intricate landscape of participant protection, considering both ethical imperatives and the potential implications of this limited interaction? What are advantages and disadvantages of using secondary data? What opportunities for replication can occur with secondary data? How might these opportunities adversely impact participant protection?

Your response must be at least 300 words in length. No references or citations are necessary.
