In a minimum of 1500 words (4-5 pages) (You have a choice of two topics) Choose only one of the topics below for your essay.

Read “The Yellow Wallpaper” (pg. 117) and discuss the changes that the narrator undergoes in the course of the story. Explain why she undergoes these changes and what it means that she ends up becoming what she becomes. Try to include direct references to the story and a discussion of the way women were viewed and treated in the late 19th century.

Read “A Rose for Emily” (pg. 40) and discuss the reasons why Emily might have done what she did. Explain her behavior throughout the story and what the townspeople find out about her at the end of the story. Try to include specific examples from the story and a discussion of mental illness and/or the class structure in the south in the early 20th century.

Use quotations and examples from the story to support your viewpoints. You MUST include examples from the story and at least one or two secondary sources (articles or web sites or books that talk about the story and its topics) in either essay.

Introduce the author and the story. Include the story as a reference.  Use MLA format and college reading and writing skills. Double space, please.

 Include word count.  ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE CHECKED FOR PLAGIARISM USING SAFE ASSIGN.
