Instructions
Step 1: Understanding the SDGs
- Go to to an external site. and review the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Choose one SDG related to health (e.g., SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation).
- Take brief notes on the SDG’s primary objectives and why it is important for global health.
Step 2: Navigating HealthData.org
- Open HealthData.org visual data webpage: to an external site.
- Explore the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data or the SDG Progress Tracker.

- Familiarize yourself with how data is visualized and interpreted. (You should have completed the Training Activity on Catcourse)
Step 3: Investigating an SDG Indicator
- Select one health-related SDG indicator (e.g., maternal mortality rate, child malnutrition, access to safe drinking water, life expectancy).
- Choose a specific country or region to investigate.
- Use HealthData.org links above to find the most recent available data on your chosen indicator.
- Compare trends over time (e.g., from 2000 to present).
- How has it changed?
- Examine how the country compares to global or regional averages.
- How is it different?
- Identify any disparities based on income, geography, or other social determinants of health.
- Why is it different?
- Compare trends over time (e.g., from 2000 to present).
Step 4: Results
- Summarize your findings in a short paragraph (5-6 sentences) addressing (You may copy these bullet points and answer below each one):
