Step 1: Understanding the SDGs

  1. Go to  to an external site. and review the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  2. Choose one SDG related to health (e.g., SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation).
  3. Take brief notes on the SDG’s primary objectives and why it is important for global health.

Step 2: Navigating HealthData.org

  1. Open HealthData.org visual data webpage:  to an external site.
  2. Explore the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data or the SDG Progress Tracker.

  1. Familiarize yourself with how data is visualized and interpreted. (You should have completed the Training Activity on Catcourse)

Step 3: Investigating an SDG Indicator

  1. Select one health-related SDG indicator (e.g., maternal mortality rate, child malnutrition, access to safe drinking water, life expectancy).
  2. Choose a specific country or region to investigate.
  3. Use HealthData.org links above to find the most recent available data on your chosen indicator.
    • Compare trends over time (e.g., from 2000 to present).
      • How has it changed?
    • Examine how the country compares to global or regional averages.
      • How is it different?
    • Identify any disparities based on income, geography, or other social determinants of health.
      • Why is it different?

Step 4: Results

  1. Summarize your findings in a short paragraph (5-6 sentences) addressing (You may copy these bullet points and answer below each one):
