A. Chapter 10 discusses Baumrind’s four types of parenting styles which vary in control and emotional responsiveness. Respond to ALL of the following:

  1. Identify the four parenting styles and describe their characteristics.
  2. Indicate a possible outcome for the child of each of the parenting styles.
  3. Share, as you feel comfortable, the type of parenting style(s) you perceive your parents/caregivers endorsed.
  4. How do you think their parenting style affected your personality and behavior?
  5. If you are a parent, or if you were to become a parent, would you have the same parenting style(s) as your parents/caregivers? Why or why not? Reply even if you never intend to have children.

B. Chapter 10 discusses “three important characteristics of sibling relationships.” Identify these three important characteristics. Whether a child has “older or younger siblings is linked to the development of certain personality characteristics” (Chapter 10). Provide a characteristic from research results for firstborn children, later-born children, and for only children. Explain how birth order or being an only child may have influenced your behavior.
