First of all, this must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document, so go ahead and open a Word document, setting up the page numbers in the right corner, but skipping the header typically found on page one (remember that a Works Cited page would never be the first page of an essay, so it should not have the left-hand header). Center your cursor on line one in the body of the document and type Works Cited – both words should be capitalized and because you will be citing more than one source, the Work becomes Works (plural).

This assignment asks you to begin your research for your argumentative essay by finding eight authoritative sources (4 that support your position and 4 that oppose your position) from the HCC Library system and create a Works Cited page.

Choose one of these scenarios for your argument essay: Click on the arrow to see the explanation of each scenario.Pick a scenario from the list above that you will use for all assignments in Module 3

SCENARIO= put Pepsi/Coke vending machines in middle schools

You work for the chair of the school board, and he is interested in making a deal with either Pepsi or Coke to put vending machines filled with soda in local middle schools. His goal is to add additional funds to each school’s budget.

  • Find 8 authoritative sources about the scenario you chose using the library database and Consensus AI (4 that support your position and 4 that oppose your position). The previous page contains a video showing you how to search the HCC Library Databases that are specifically for argument essays and also contains information about how to use Consensus AI.
  • Using Microsoft Word, create a Works Cited in MLA 9 formatting using the 8 sources you found.
    • Format the sources in proper MLA 9 formatting
    • Entries must be arranged in alphabetical order. Do not separate them into two categories – your side of the argument and the opposition’s side.
    • You must provide the URL for every entry.
