Now, it’s time to write your final draft of the Rhetorical Analysis.  As you develop the final draft, if you have taken it step-by-step as discussed in previous modules, you will already have substantial content for this essay. Now, take what you have completed, along with any feedback on the thesis and outline assignment, and apply what you have learned about revising and editing to develop a clear, concise final draft of the essay.  REMEMBER: you are not writing about the topic of your chosen source, nor are you providing your opinion about the topic. You are critiquing how well or how poorly the author/speaker provided his or argument.

  • Review Essay 2: Understanding the Rhetorical Analysis Essay Assignment to ensure you are meeting the requirements of the assignment
  • Develop an essay between 1000-1200 words (the content of the essay, not including the header or the Work Cited page)
  • Use the one source that you are analyzing within your essay
  • Cite your one source using MLA format and include in-text citations – an in-text citation for a video should include the author’s last name and the time the quote occurred in the video like this (Smith 02:31)
  • Include the work cited entry provided for you on the list of sources, which is NOT just the web address
  • Avoid using,
  • First-person point of view
  • Second-person point of view (“you” and any derivatives)
  • Providing your opinion about the topic
  • SOURCE
