Resort Development Plan Phase 5: Human Resource Management

Overview:

In a successful resort, the people are as important as—if not more important than—the services offered. In this section of your report, outline your methods for hiring and training new employees, as well as the ways you plan to develop a positive corporate culture that promotes productivity, unity, and respect among your employees.

RESORT INFORMATION:

Name: Oasis Resort – Symbolizing tranquility and exclusivity, the name represents a serene, oceanic escape. The logo features a stylized wave forming an infinity symbol, reflecting endless relaxation and sustainability.

Location: Maldives – A remote, breathtaking island location offering pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant marine ecosystems.

Style/ Target Market: • Luxury honeymooners and couples • High-income travelers seeking exclusivity • Eco-conscious tourists 3 • Corporate wellness retreat.

Directions:

Reference Chapter 7 and knowledge from previous courses to complete this section of your Resort Development Plan. 

Note: Organization chart can be on the computer using programs like PowerPoint.

Phase 5: Human Resource Management

A.   Organizational Chart Draw and label a chart that shows the chain of command within your organization, including departments and job titles.

B.   Sample Job Description Choose a resort supervisory or management position that you might be interested in and write a standard job description that includes:

                                          I.         Job Summary – A brief paragraph of approximately 75-100 words that outlines what the job entails and what is expected of this particular supervisor/ manager

                                        II.         Report To – Refer to your organizational chart to identify who the position reports to.

                                     III.         Job Responsibilities – A bulleted list of specific duties (list approximately six duties)

                                     IV.         Relation to Other Departments – Explain how the position interacts with at least two other departments

                                       V.         Qualifications – List the level of education, experience and special skills and personal qualities required to succeed at the position

                                     VI.         Unique Contribution to the Organization – Describe ways that the position impacts the quality of service provided to guests as well as the future success of the resort.

C.   Hiring Process – Briefly describe the following steps in your resort’s hiring process:

·       Recruitment – List the various recruiting techniques that you use to locate prospective employees, both internally and externally.

·       Screening/Interviewing – List the various steps that a job candidate goes through until they are offered a position

·       Orientation – What types of information, procedures and activities are covered in your orientation program for new employees?

·       Ongoing Training – Based on the job description you created in Section B, what types of training sessions (including task training and attitude training) would help you be most productive in that supervisory/management position?

D.   Salary/Incentives/Benefits Research resorts that are similar to yours (in terms of size, service levels, seasonality, labor supply and demand, and cost of living factors) to determine the salary, incentives and benefits for the management job description you created in Section B above:

·       Salary Range – List the management position’s salary range. Explain how you arrived at that figure and reference the sources you used to come up with a logical range.

·       Incentive Systems – Create a bulleted list of approximately six ways that a person in the chosen management position would be rewarded for their contributions. (Ex: bonuses, commissions, recognition awards, etc.)Note: Try to go beyond examples given in the book to create a few unique incentives that separate your resort from the rest…

·       Benefits – Create a bulleted list of additional perks (beyond salary and incentives) that would be offered to someone in your chosen management position:

o   Social Benefits (list at least 3)

o   Personal Benefits (List at Least 3)

PART 3- Module 5 – DISCUSSION

Hindu Deity Discussion

It is said that there are over 330 million gods and goddesses within the Hindu religion and each god/goddess has his or her own story that reveals his or her own religious significance. For this discussion, you will be selecting 2 different Hindu gods/goddesses of your choosing that you would be interested in learning more about.

For each selected Hindu deity, you must provide the following:

1.    Name and Title (Ex: Vishnu, God of Preservation)

2.    Image of the deity

3.    Brief explanation of why you chose that specific god/goddess. Below are some examples of this:

·       Maybe that Hindu god/goddess reminds you of a Christian saint or biblical character who is the Catholic patron/patroness of a particular human endeavor, career field, or avocation that somehow pertains to you

o   Ex: Saint Cecilia Patroness of Musicians and Sarasvati Hindu Goddess of Music

·       Maybe you found the specific image of that god/goddess intriguing

·       Maybe there is a pop culture reference to the deity

o   Ex: TV series, movie, book, video game, etc.

4.    Deity in Scripture

·       Summarize a story from the Hindu scriptures in which that the deity plays a major role.

o   This can be their origin story or another important story about the deity.

5.    Relationship to other Hindu Deities

·       How is this specific deity related to at least 2 other Hindu deities?

o   Ex: Is the selected deity a mother/father to another deity or possibly a husband/wife of another deity?

6.    Imagery & Symbolism

·       Explain the traditional symbolism associated with the selected deity

o   Ex: Color of their skin, why they are depicted with specific animals, pose or stance in which they are depicted, any object they may be holding or that are depicted around them
