Overview:During the semester we have read and discussed Fahrenheit 451 and identified topics and issuesin the novel that relate to our modern society today. Additionally, in the Position Essay studentsresponded to the ideas of literary scholars. These assignments have set the stage for the ResearchEssay in which students will show that the novel remains relevant to modern readers due toissues, topics, and ideas in the novel that we observe in our own society today and providesreaders with important lessons that we can learn and apply to our own civilization. 

Process:The Research Essay process includes three important steps: completing the Research Proposal,evaluating and summarizing sources in the Annotated Bibliography, and writing the ResearchEssay. 

Format:This essay will contain at least eight (8) full pages, double-spaced, written in Times New Roman,font size 12. The essay will be formatted with one-inch margins, a proper MLA heading and title,and a formal Works Cited page. The final Research Essay requires a minimum of 11 secondarysources (4 of the 11 sources must be scholarly sources). Source #12 will be the novel. Secondarysource types include scholarly journal articles, books, e-books, journals, e-journals, magazines,e-magazines, interviews, newspaper articles or e-newspaper articles, video, podcasts,government or organizational data or studies, etc. authored by identifiable professionals and/orscholars in their respective fields. The novel does not count toward the ten required outsidesources. See the outline in the assignment directions for guidance
