Based on your research of leadership theories and models, identify ONE (1) area of
strength (where you currently feel comfortable) and ONE (1) area of potential growth
(where you feel you could/should improve as a school leader).

Document the leadership areas with professional sources (i.e. where did you locate the
information (theory/model) that is guiding your SMART goal development. Be sure to
use APA formatting for the in-text citation and the attendant reference page.

These areas will lead you into a professional development plan process that will
encompass TWO (2) areas of growth opportunities.

Create a SMART goal for each of the development areas.

Your competency area should be a comfort goal – just continuing to improve in this
area.

Your growth area should be a stretch goal where you plan to move into improvement.

At a minimum, be sure to include the following elements: Target area(s). Rationale, the
SMART goal, Learning activity(ies) for that goal, Method for documenting progress, and
Method of documenting achievement (per your SMART goal).
