Life Rewound Project: Development in Reverse

For this project, you will choose a fictional character, celebrity, or historical figure and design their life journey in reverse, from their death to their birth. You must research the chosen individual thoroughly, considering factors such as career choices, relationships, major life events, and personal growth. Include areas of psychosocial, physical, emotional, and spiritual states within each of Erickson’s Stages of Development and create a detailed timeline or storyboard showcasing the key moments in reverse order, highlighting the impact of each event on shaping the person’s life. This project is made up of six parts. You will work on a section each week and bring it all together at the end. Below are the instructions for Part I.

To prepare for this week’s project, watch the “Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Please allow time to watch this and reflect on life in reverse. As you watch the movie, take notes on significant events, character development, and thematic elements. Then, write a paper addressing the following points:

· Briefly summarize the plot of the movie.

· Introduce the main themes and concepts you will be exploring in your analysis.

· Analyze Benjamin Button’s life journey from a developmental psychology perspective.

· Identify and discuss the various life stages Benjamin experiences and how they differ from typical human development.

· Reflect on how Benjamin’s aging backward affects his identity formation and relationships.

Recommended Considerations (Ideas for discussion, but not required):

· Explore existential themes portrayed in the film, such as the search for meaning, mortality, and the human condition.

· Discuss how Benjamin’s unique existence raises questions about purpose, destiny, and the nature of time.

· Analyze how other characters in the movie grapple with existential dilemmas and their responses to life’s uncertainties.

· Relate aspects of Benjamin’s journey to your understanding of human development and existential philosophy.

The essay must be at least 750 words and cite the movie, the textbook, and another credible source.
