Review the Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8) Scenario. You will watch and listen as a mass fatality incident unfolds. You represent Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF8) and will need your mass fatality plan (see written web resources) as a resource to assist you.

As you move through the case study, assess the situations presented and answer the following questions below based on the scenario. 

1. At this point what are your main priorities? 

2. Who should Public Health communicate with? 

3. What information is necessary and should be gathered? 

4. What initial response activities will you undertake? 

5. What notifications will your organization make regarding the incident? 

6. What information and/or requests will be communicated? 

7. Consider the diversity (race, age, ethnicity, gender, class, SES (Socioeconomic status, gender identification, sexual orientation, for examples) among the passengers and crew. What factors should be considered? 

8. Expecting fatalities, what are the initial actions of the Medical Examiner’s office? 

9. What is a Family Assistance Center (FAC) and what entities are involved in establishing one? Consider diversity (race, age, ethnicity, gender, class, SES, gender identification, sexual orientation, for examples) of the passengers, crew members and their respective families in your response.
